About
Erik Van Slyke
on listening, change and creating cultures that thrive
Erik Van Slyke is the Managing Director of Solleva Group where he advises some of the world’s leading organizations how to plan for, implement and manage change. His articles and quotes on change, listening and human resource management have appeared in publications that include The Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, Computerworld, CIO, HR Executive, HR Magazine and Workforce. He also is the author of Listening to Conflict (AMACOM Books) named by Soundview’s Executive Summaries as a Top 30 Business Book of 1999 and reissued in paperback on its tenth anniversary.
Solleva Group’s Architecture of Change was named by HR Executive Magazine as one of the Best Ideas in HR for 2010. It is a proven approach that deepens the ability of change leaders to go beyond “completing the project” to achieve the operational and cultural benefits required for accelerated and sustained results. Solleva also leverages the power of listening to help organizations understand the current state of projects, employee engagement, team functioning and customer relationships.
The son of a human resources executive, Erik spent his early career in finance trying to ignore his familial influences by getting lost in the analysis of the inanimate. But after being loaned to a project team focused on remaking the culture of his corporate finance organization, he embraced his roots, found his purpose and set off with passion to help organizations create cultures that thrive.
Erik blends a variety of disciplines in his thought provoking approach towards change management. He educates leaders to balance change requirements with the strategic and operational needs of the organization as well as an understanding of human behavior. He brings lessons learned from his 20+ years of professional experience as a senior executive, front-line manager, HR professional, consultant, and academic.
Prior to founding Solleva Group, Erik was the Northeast Regional Leader for the Human Capital Management practice at Buck Consultants and held senior consulting roles with Deloitte and SHL USA. In those roles, he helped organizations manage change during technology and outsourcing implementations, integrate during mergers and acquisitions, align cultures to emerging business requirements and improve human resource operational effectiveness. In addition to consulting, Erik was the EVP of HR for Reuters Americas where he led the turnaround of its human resources function while directing all facets of HR throughout the United States, Canada and Latin America.
Throughout the years, Erik also was on the faculty of the American Management Association where he taught and developed courses on human resources, conflict management, negotiation and change. In addition, Erik has taught management and human resources to full-time and corporate in-house students as a college adjunct faculty member.
Erik received his MBA in finance from the Kenan-Flagler Business School of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his bachelors of arts in psychology from Hobart College.
